Our

History

My grandfather Arthur, was one of the first fishermen in the 40’s to ‘trap’ fish in the Sandon River. He went on to meet my grandmother Irene, a local girl from palmers island. Together they had twelve, yes twelve children! My father also named Arthur, was the eldest of the ‘bunch’.

For many years pop trapped around the Sandon teaching the kids the ways of fishing and the unforgiving ways of mother nature. After years of fishing and a few near drownings they traded in the sea breezes and moved to Kootingal in the Tamworth region. They renovated the old post office and opened up a fish shop ‘Pryors Seafood’. The girls helped in the shop and the boys helped out on the weekly market fish run beginning as far north as Brisbane and heading as far west as lightening ridge. It wasn’t long before they were known as ‘the best in the west.’

After pops passing Irene and the family found a calling for home back to the waters of the Clarence and the boys soon found themsleves back on the fishing trawelers.

Dad bought ‘Pegasus’ our family fishing traweler in the early 90’s and fished from the Iluka port. We would often go to sea as kids and help ‘shoot the nets’ and ‘sort the catch’. Dad and the brothers have since retired and moved on, but dad still holds the love of his life (the ocean) close to his heart having the odd trip to sea with one of his life long friends ‘Duck’, the owner of ‘Yamba Wild’ and the captian of ‘Rebel II’.

With captain duck at the helm, rebel II and her sister boat ‘ Little River’ supply Sandbar with some of the freshest seafood on the east coast.

Straight off the back of the boat and onto your plate we bring to you three generations of local seafood.
